Your Next Step Doesn’t Have to Be Big – It Just Needs to Happen

Do you have an idea that’s been waiting? A change you long for, but that keeps getting pushed aside until you “know more,” “have more time,” or “feel ready”?

You're not alone.
I’ll admit – I still fall into that trap sometimes. Less and less these days compared to 10 or 20 years ago, thankfully. But still. It happens.
Despite all the experience, knowledge and drive – those thoughts sneak in: “What if it’s not enough?”, “Shouldn’t I be more prepared?”

But time and time again, I’ve learned this:
It’s in motion that new possibilities appear – and create both energy and courage for the next step.

That’s exactly how my coaching program Färgrikt Ledarskap (Vibrant Leadership) was born.

Not with a perfect concept.
Not with a name. Not even participants – but with a launch date.
And with a quiet longing. A spark. An idea I just couldn’t shake.

I had just stepped fully into running my own business. For the first time in years, I had the freedom – and the courage – to let something new take shape. During the quiet days between Christmas and New Year, I made a cup of tea, opened my laptop – and started sketching.

A webinar about creating online programmes caught my eye. It wasn’t revolutionary – but it was clear enough for me to feel: This is worth exploring.

So I made a decision: I would create and deliver a four-week group programme – within twelve weeks.
No perfection. No polished plan. Just a promise to myself:
Follow the energy. And begin.

My mantra throughout the process became:
Good enough for now. Safe enough to try.

And that kept me out of the overthinking trap.

I stopped getting stuck in “what if it’s not enough?” and instead followed what felt alive.
I spent less time predicting every detail – and more time creating, testing, listening.
I chose to trust that the next step would reveal itself – if I just took the first one.

And it did.
Bit by bit, the content came to life.
It felt vibrant. Real. Honest.
And I was proud to deliver it – with presence, joy and direction.

When the programme opened, over 70 people registered, and 50 actively stepped in and completed it..
Half of them I already knew – former colleagues, friends, past clients.
And the other half were brand new connections. That made it even more exciting.

And the feedback?
It went straight to my heart.
People spoke about clarity, courage, new decisions – and most of all: that they had finally started moving in the direction of their dreams..

One of the moments that moved me the most came several months later.

A participant from that very first round reached out. She had written a beautiful reflection at the end of the programme – and now she wanted more.
She signed up for a second round, this time as a full-paying participant.

When we spoke before the start, she told me:

“During the programme I discovered so many new things about myself. I gained the courage to take action on what I truly want – and just as importantly, clarity on what’s not mine to carry anymore.
I can let go more easily now, and it doesn’t drain me in the same way. I feel calmer. And that calm has deepened in the six months since the course.
I’ve stepped into a new level – and from here, I see new things. I dream bigger.”

That.
That’s what can happen when we stop trying to plan every step in advance – and instead let one step show us the way.

So… what’s your next step?

Not the biggest one. Not the final one.
But the one that feels true right now.
The one you’re curious about – or tired of postponing.

Maybe it’s a conversation you’ve been avoiding.
A decision that’s waiting.
Or simply setting a clear focus for the week ahead.

Whatever it is – see if you can make it your Act +1.
One small test. Not a lifetime commitment.
Just a move.

💡 A few questions to reflect on:

  • What feels important to move forward with right now?
  • Where am I longing for more clarity, energy or ease?
  • What could be a small first step – a test I can try today or tomorrow?
  • What am I hoping to learn when I try it?

✍️ Write down what you’ve decided to do – and follow up tomorrow.
So you can tick it off, learn from it – and choose your next one.
That’s how momentum builds. One step at a time.
