Sometimes it is about finally dealing with what you have been walking around for far too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
In Episode 72 of Confident Leadership. In Colour. \u2013 The Decisions You Keep Walking Around,<\/strong> Hanna Zaxmy uses an unexpected summer project \u2014 clearing the family basement \u2014 to explore self-leadership, Ownership and change leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the things stored downstairs was her grandparents\u2019 grandfather clock. It had enormous sentimental value, but for almost 18 years it had remained switched off and stored away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This summer, Hanna finally made a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rather than throwing it away, she changed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She painted it and added shelves, giving the clock an additional purpose so that it could become useful in the life her family is actually living today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That experience became a reflection on leading change.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of Hanna\u2019s strengths as a leader is being able to picture a future result quickly \u2014 to see what something could become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But there is a challenge hidden inside that strength: Other people cannot see the picture inside your head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When the destination already feels clear to us, we can easily assume that we have communicated it clearly to everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Most probably, we haven\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So rather than automatically asking, \u201cWhy are they resisting this?\u201d, perhaps the better leadership questions are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n What might they not be able to see yet? What do I need to communicate more clearly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n And sometimes the questions or hesitation of others may reveal something valuable that needs to shape the original vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The rest of the basement brought another reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some things did not need a new purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They simply needed to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They had become physical reminders of decisions that had never quite been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And leadership can look surprisingly similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A conversation we need to have. When we postpone the decision, we may still carry its mental and emotional cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That connects directly with Ownership in the CONFIDENT Framework \u2014 taking responsibility for our choices, our growth and the way we lead.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes Ownership means a courageous yes.
