Have you ever tried to make an important decision or lead a challenging conversation when you’re already tired, tense, or scattered? Then you know just how much our inner state shapes the way we think, feel and act.
This blog post isn’t about “thinking positive” or ignoring what’s difficult. On the contrary. It’s about intentionally shifting into a more resourceful state – so you can think more clearly and feel more centred, even when life is messy.
What is a resourceful state?
A resourceful state is an internal experience where you have access to your strengths. You feel grounded, present, and capable. Not necessarily cheerful or energised – but able. Like yourself, on a good day.
You know – when you strike that balance between clarity and warmth, focus and ease. When you hear yourself say something wise in a meeting and think “Yes – that’s me.”
Why does it matter?
Because it’s hard to create direction, set boundaries or meet others with empathy – if you’re off balance yourself.
In those moments, it’s easy to either retreat or slip into over-performance. You go on autopilot. You react instead of lead. Maybe you lose touch with your inner compass.
But you can take back the reins. With small micro-pauses that help you shift into a more resourceful state – before you move forward.
How to do it: 1-minute reset
Try this right now – it takes less than a minute.
Or follow the steps below:
- Close your eyes if it feels safe.
- Take a deep breath in… and out.
- Picture a place where you feel really good – safe, free, alive.
- See yourself there. Notice how your body feels. What do you hear? What thoughts arise?
- Let every detail strengthen the sense of ease in your body.
- Say one word that captures this state. Repeat it to yourself. Let it grow.
You can return to this state at any time. All it takes is seeing the place, feeling the feeling, and saying your word.
Bonus: Music that amplifies
Music is a powerful way to evoke emotion and shift your state. Create a playlist with songs that make you feel strong, calm or focused – depending on what you need. Let it become your personal leadership soundtrack.
What becomes possible – when you lead from a resourceful state
When you act from a resourceful state, you become:
💡 Clearer in your communication
💖 More empathetic in relationships
🔥 Braver in your decisions
🌈 More creative in your solutions
And most importantly: you lead from yourself – not from stress or autopilot.
