#72 - What decisions are you still walking around?

What decisions are you still walking around? Explore Ownership, self-leadership, change leadership and creating space for what comes next.

Sometimes preparing for a new season is not about adding something new.

Sometimes it is about finally dealing with what you have been walking around for far too long.

In Episode 72 of Confident Leadership. In Colour. – The Decisions You Keep Walking Around, Hanna Zaxmy uses an unexpected summer project — clearing the family basement — to explore self-leadership, Ownership and change leadership.

Among the things stored downstairs was her grandparents’ grandfather clock. It had enormous sentimental value, but for almost 18 years it had remained switched off and stored away.

This summer, Hanna finally made a decision.

Rather than throwing it away, she changed it.

She painted it and added shelves, giving the clock an additional purpose so that it could become useful in the life her family is actually living today.

That experience became a reflection on leading change..

One of Hanna’s strengths as a leader is being able to picture a future result quickly — to see what something could become.

But there is a challenge hidden inside that strength: Other people cannot see the picture inside your head.

When the destination already feels clear to us, we can easily assume that we have communicated it clearly to everyone else.

Most probably, we haven’t.

So rather than automatically asking, “Why are they resisting this?”, perhaps the better leadership questions are:

What might they not be able to see yet? What do I need to communicate more clearly?

And sometimes the questions or hesitation of others may reveal something valuable that needs to shape the original vision.

The rest of the basement brought another reflection.

Some things did not need a new purpose.

They simply needed to go.

They had become physical reminders of decisions that had never quite been made.

And leadership can look surprisingly similar.

A conversation we need to have.
A boundary we need to set.
A role that needs redefining.
A project that is neither alive nor properly finished.
A role that needs redefining.

When we postpone the decision, we may still carry its mental and emotional cost.

That connects directly with Ownership in the CONFIDENT Framework — taking responsibility for our choices, our growth and the way we lead..

Sometimes Ownership means a courageous yes. Sometimes it means a very clear no.Sometimes it means renewing something that still matters.

And sometimes it means recognising that something has had its time.

Sometimes it means a very clear no.
